The San Francisco 49ers had one of the best defenses in the NFL last season and that was one of the main reasons why the team made it all the way to the Super Bowl and as training camp is getting underway, the team may be down one of its best players, as Patrick Willis suffered a fracture in his hand.
According to ESPN.com, Willis suffered a slight fracture to his right hand while practicing at training camp on Wednesday and the issue came up when the linebacker was working out in 1-on-1 blocking drills in camp. The report says that the fracture was to an unspecified bone and that Willis has previously dealt with issues in that same hand with fractures and the team will be cautious as they let the injury heal.
Willis has been selected to the Pro Bowl every season he has played in the league and he made 120 tackles last season, the fifth time in six tries that he has gone over 100. Fellow linebacker NaVorro Bowman, was also injured, as he is dealing with a groin injury. The two stars remained on the sidelines and Willis has his wrist wrapped.
