Kings Eliminate Number 1 Seed Canucks in NHL Playoffs

The Los Angeles Kings pulled off the unthinkable in eliminating Presidents Cup Trophy winners and number one seed Vancouver Canucks in the NHL Playoffs.

The Kings beat the Canucks 2-1 in overtime of Game 5 with Jarret Stoll scoring the winning shot at 4:27 in overtime.

The Kings were able to pull off the stunner in Vancouver in hostile territory to win the series 4-1.

It is a big turnaround for a team that squeaked into the playoffs as an eighth seed, playing for its life in the final week of the regular season.

The shocking series loss gives the Canucks, last year's Stanley Cup losers to the Boston Bruins, a long off season to think about what could have been.

A promising playoffs for the Canucks began with an outstanding year in which the team won the Presidents Cup by two points over the St. Louis Blues and the New York Rangers.

However, it is the Blues and the Rangers who are still alive in the playoffs.  The Blues, who won their series 4-1 over the San Jose Sharks, will be facing the Kings in the second round of the playoffs.
