The Atlanta Braves and Washington Nationals face off at 1:05 p.m. ET. They will make up yesterday's postponed game, following the tragedy at the U.S. Navy Yard in Washington D.C., just a few blocks from Nationals Stadium. Check out the live stream available online as these N.L. East rivals meet in their last series of the 2013 season.
The Braves hope that Mike Minor can have a stronger start against the Nationals. In his last start, Minor struggled against the weak Miami Marlins' team. He gave up four earned runs over six innings pitched, giving up 11 hits, no walks and recording four strikeouts.
Atlanta will look to better a trend that has seen them lose three of Minor's last five starts. They are 0-2 in September when the 25-year-old is on the mound. There was not much Minor could do in his first start of September, the Braves simply could not get any runs across as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated them 2-1. Minor is 1-1 against the Nationals in 2013 with a 7.50 ERA in two starts. He pitched well in his first start against them in August. However, Minor could not escape the second inning, having allowed four runs on four hits and four walks. Minor simply did not have his stuff exactly a month ago.
The Nationals will send veteran righty, Dan Haren to the mound. He has struggled in 2013, going 9-13 with a 5.02 ERA, the highest ERA in his career since his rookie year back in 2013. However, he faired very well against the Braves in his only start against them this season. He went eight innings, allowing just one earned run on four hits. The Nationals sure hope this Haren can show up to D.C. The team could use it to help their cause and it would be a great gift to Washing D.C. fans.
