Sacramento Kings Rumors: DeMarcus Cousins Nearing Contract Extension?

Sacramento Kings' big man in the middle DeMarcus Cousins is on pace to see a contract extension offer before the Oct. 31 extension deadline for 2010 first-round picks according to sources familiar with the situation.

According to ESPN.com, sources say that Cousins could actually see a deal wrapped up within the upcoming weeks before the Kings are set to begin their training camp in Santa Barbara Calif.

However, if the discussions extend past the deadline those same sources say Cousins will join John Wall, Larry Sanders and Paul George on the 2010 draftees to receiver contract extensions before the Halloween deadline.

The only questions that remain are whether Cousins is deserving of an extension deal. Though his talent level is high, his bad attitude and effort have been called into question during his first three seasons in the league.

In his career he's led or been near the league lead in fouls and his volatility has resulted in multiple suspensions. As recently as last December the 23-year-old was suspended indefinitely by the Kings for unprofessional behavior.

Cousins has career averages of 16.3 points and 9.8 rebounds per game over 220 games. He's missed more games due to suspensions than to injury or illness.
