The Philadelphia Eagles locked down star running back LeSean McCoy with a five-year deal.
The deal, which will run through 2017, is reportedly worth $45 million. It makes him one of the highest paid running backs in the NFL.
McCoy set a franchise record last year by rushing for 17 touchdowns and 20 total scores while earning All Pro and Pro Bowl honors. He also led the NFL with 102 first downs and 48 runs of 10-plus yards. He finished as the fourth leading rusher in the league with 1,309 yards.
Eagles, earlier, extended contracts of DeSean Jackson, Todd Herremans and Trent Cole.
"We are excited to continue this offseason of taking care of our own players," head coach Andy Reid told The Eagles website.
LeSean is one of the most electrifying running backs in the National Football League. He's worked extremely hard to turn himself into a Pro Bowl running back and he is well deserving of this contract extension.
"He is not a one-dimensional running back. He is a running back that can not only carry the ball for you, but he catches the football as well as the wide receivers. He can block, he loves playing the game and that brings great energy to our football team," Reid added.
"We're just so excited to have him here. He is part of the family," general manager Howie Roseman said.
"His smile and his play is so important to this organization and to this team. I know I speak for all of us when I say we're just real excited he is going to be here for a long time."
The 23-year old McCoy, who was the Eagles second round raft pick in 2009, said he was ecstatic to have sorted out the contract. "I have to admit it will feel great to wake up tomorrow and know that the deal is done, it's over with.
"I'm one of those guys who want to be fully focused on football. We have one main goal. The main goal is to win a championship.
"I think we're all on the same page."
