Maurice Jones-Drew Fantasy Football: Cecil Shorts and RB Value Decreases After Luke Joeckel Injury As OL Lost For Season

The Jacksonville Jaguars are 0-5 this season and going nowhere and while the team has some offensive stars, things could get tougher in fantasy football for names like Justin Blackmon and Maurice Jones-Drew, as rookie lineman Luke Joeckel was injured on Sunday against the Rams and will miss the rest of the season.

According to ESPN.com, the top pick for the Jaguars in the draft this season was injured against the Rams and suffered an ankle injury described as a "right high ankle fracture" and now he will be out for the season. Things were already bad for the Jaguars after trading away former top pick Eugene Monroe, and now they will have to deal with the loss of Joeckel. The rookie was making his first start at left tackle and now his loss puts the whole line in flux again, making the value of Maurice Jones Drew and Cecil Shorts decrease a bit.

Jones-Drew had his best game of the season despite Joeckel getting hurt and now he will have to overcome offensive line issues and the fact that he is the top player on offense for the Jaguars. Drew will likely face eight man boxes the rest of the season and with Monroe getting traded for picks, the offensive line is up in the air for the team. Joeckel came into the season as one of the top players in the draft and he moved to the left side after starting the season on the right.

ESPN.com reports that Joeckel was injured after his leg got caught underneath his own body after being rolled up on after a running play by Drew and now he will be out for the year. The team is also dealing with an injury to Blaine Gabbert at quarterback and things are quickly spinning out of control for the Jaguars, as they rank 30th in rushing yards per game and just 29th in passing yards per game.

Drew had 70 yards rushing in the game and added two receptions for 16 yards and now he has 208 yards for the season with one touchdown. The team needs him to continue playing well and staying healthy and Shorts has shown that he can at least put up some numbers, as he had five catches for 74 yards and a touchdown while also having 10 targets, making it double digit targets for him in every game this season.
