New Orleans Pelicans Rumors: Tyreke Evans Out For Two Weeks As PG To Be Ready For Regular Season Opener After Trade?

The New Orleans Pelicans made a big splash this offseason by trading for Jrue Holiday and Tyreke Evans and now that the team feels it can make a playoff run, they may have to start the season without one of those point guards after an injury.

According to Pro Basketball Talk, Evans was injured for the Pelicans in the preseason, injuring his ankle in the first game on the schedule for New Orleans. The report says that Dell Demps mentioned that Evans will be out for one or two weeks and that he "should" be healthy for the season opener by the end of the month. Losing Evans for a small period of time likely wouldn't be deadly for the Pelicans anyway with Holiday in the fold, but it is good news for the team that he is set to be ready for the opener.

The move to sign and trade for Evans started off the flurry for the Pelicans, as they traded for Holiday after getting Evans in on a four year deal worth over $40 million and he gives the team some great options at guard for the Pelicans. Monty Williams will have a fun time jumping between Evans and Holiday and both have said they are interested in winning.

The team was one of the worst in the league last season, but after pulling off the trades, they are working on being one of the quickest turnarounds in the league. The team has plenty of talent with Anthony Davis and Eric Gordon to go along with Evans and Holiday and with Ryan Anderson and other bench players filling roles, they could easily be a playoff team.

From Twitter by John Reid: "Pelicans GM Dell Demps said on tonight's radio broadcast that Tyreke Evans could be out one to two weeks, but should be ready by opener."
