Jeff Cumberland Fantasy Football: Week 6 Suspension For Kellen Winslow Makes Jets Tight End Top Free Agent Pickup

The New York Jets are a surprising 3-2 on the season and the offense has been playing much better under Geno Smith than many in the NFL expected, but one player that will be missing for the next handful of games will be tight end Kellen Winslow, who was suspended this week for four games for violating the league police on performance enhancing substances.

According to ESPN.com, Winslow was suspended for violating the league PED policy and now he will be suspended for four games and in a statement the tight end said that he was not sure what he took that flagged the positive test. Winslow said that he does not take supplements with banned ingredients and said that he accepted the punishment while also apologizing to his teammates and the organization. Winslow has been the leading receiver for the team and he now will miss a big chunk of games, including against the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots, Cincinnati Bengals and the currently undefeated New Orleans Saints before he can return.

Winslow is tops on the team with 17 catches for over 100 yards and two touchdowns and he has been a solid safety net for Smith in his first year as quarterback. Winslow is making a comeback after dealing with some injuries while playing with the Buccaneers and Browns and after being cut by the Seahawks and Patriots last year, he signed with the Jets and now as a fantasy option he will be out for the next four weeks. Winslow was showing some signs of his old talent when he made over 80 catches for over 1,000 yards for the Browns, but now he will be missing from the offense.

Jeff Cumberland is a prime option to pick up as a free agent and while the tight end has not put up great numbers this season with seven catches for 139 yards, but over the past two weeks he has scored touchdowns and could be primed for more. He had three receptions and four targets last week against the Atlanta Falcons while scoring a touchdown and he had a TD catch against the Titans for 34 yards on his only reception of the day. Cumberland could be a nice option until Winslow gets back from his suspension.
