Both teams are rested and ready for Game 1 of the World Series as their aces get ready to take the mound. The teams are stacked with champions; David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Jon Lester, John Lackey, Shane Victorino, Adam Wainwright, David Freese, Yadier Molina, Allen Craig. No longer are the guys from the 2004 World Series that featured Manny Ramirez, Edgar Renteria, Trot Nixon, Jonathan Papelbon, Albert Pujols.
The Red Sox and Cardinals have won championships after their 2004 meeting that saw Boston win its first World Series since 1918. The Red Sox swept the Cardinals as they proved to be overpowering. The Red Sox won in 2007, but that was the end of their glory as the end and beginning of the decades brought about harsh realities; the Red Sox could spend all the money they wanted and still not put together a championship team.
This season, the Red Sox kept things simple. They had a decent winter, staying humble during the offseason, signiang players to a couple of years. In fact, they took their time signing Mike Napoli, who has proven to be a great player in the postseason. They signed guys like Shane Victorino and Jonny Gomes who will not lead the league in home runs, but are pretty clutch and can bring positive energy to the ball club.
The Cardinals did not have to do much. They had established guys in their rotation as Lance Lynn contributed greatly to the Cardinals' pitching lineup. With a few rookies that proved super clutch throughout the season, the Cardinals did not miss guys like Jaime Garcia and Chris Carpenter, Joe Kelly, Shelby Miller and Michael Wacha stepped up. Matt Holliday, Carlos Beltran and Allen Craig provided the thunder as Yadier Molina chased after a batting title.
Both the Red Sox and Cardinals can light up a scoreboard with their offenses, but their pitching will make things interesting. Wacha has yet to lose a game and Lackey has pitched solid baseball throughout the postseason, posting a 2-0 record. Will the Red Sox veterans prove too dynamic or will youth rock this World Series and lead the Cardinals to victory?
