The Charlote Bobcats will enter the 2012 season knowing two things, they did not win the no. 1 overall pick and they will not have Patrick Ewing as their head coach.
Ewing was denied the position by good friend and former colleague, Michael Jordan. Maybe Jordan could not get over their rivalry and refused to hire the ex-New York Knick? Chances are that Jordan is looking forward to hiring former Utah Jazz great, Jerry Sloan.
In 26 seasons as a coach, Sloan had a 1,221-803 record for a .603 winning percentage.
Speaking of winning percentages, it is impossible to overlook the Bobcats' miserable .106 winning percentage in 2012, the worst in NBA history. It would probably benefit Jordan, who has received a lot of backlash for his ability as a team owner, to get a veteran head coach.
Patrick Ewing has been an assistant since retiring in 2002. He was a coaching assistant for the Orlando Magic in 2007 and was part of the 2009 team that faced the Los Angeles Lakers in the Finals. He was a player for Jeff Van Gundy and was the assistant to Stan Van Gundy, who was recently fired by the Magic.
Jordan will continue searching for a head coach. Analysts around the like, like Jeff Van Gundy believe it is only a matter of time before Patrick Ewing gets the chacne to coach in the NBA.
