Jeff Green Trade Rumors: Cleveland Cavaliers, Boston Celtics Negotiate Anderson Varejao Deal if Omer Asik Unavailable, Draft Picks Offered in Package

Jeff Green appears to be on every team's wish list when it comes to the trade market. The young forward has jumped on the scene this season for the overachieving Boston Celtics. Now that means he is trade bait as the Celtics may or may not be tanking the season. As Omer Asik continues to get all of the attention, every team that might miss out on the center is looking towards Green as their backup.

The Boston Herald reports the Celtics and the Cleveland Cavaliers could be involved in a trade that would swap out Jeff Green for Anderson Varejao. If the Rockets are unable to pull off a three-team trade involving Asik, the Cavaliers and the Celtics could still work out a deal. Sources are reporting that the Cavaliers would actually prefer to get Green over Asik and they feel Varejao would be a better fit for the Celtics than any other player.

Green is putting up one of the best seasons of this career which is why there is so much attention surrounding the forward. He is averaging 16.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game while shooting 45.3 percent from the field. He is solid on defense while moving around to play multiple positions. He has become the star of the Celtics and if the team is really set on tanking, he must go.

Boston is reportedly not sold on the skill set of Asik. They are hesitant to give up Green in exchange for a one-dimensional player despite his elite big man status. This is where Varejao comes in who might be the better player of the two. The Cavaliers will likely have to offer up more than Varejao for this trade to happen considering Green is a star in the making.

Varejao is a seasoned veteran with excellent leadership skills to help guide Boston. He has excellent frontcourt abilities while also transitioning to crash the boards on defense. He has improved his jump shot and almost always makes an immediate impact on the court. He is more multi-dimensional than Asik which is the biggest appeal for the Celtics.

The Cavaliers are trying to build a strong young core of players. The average age on the team is 24, making Varejao the odd man out. Green would be welcomed alongside Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson. Varejao's contract also is more appealing than Asik's deal which will play a large role in this trade going down.
