English Premier League Table Results and Scores: Liverpool, Arsenal Battle For First In Barclays With Chelsea, Man City As Manchester United Wins

The English Premier League schedule is back and the table results are in flux as things started off on the Boxing Day holiday with an exciting match for Manchester United against Hull City and after falling back by two goals, Man U pulled ahead after scores from Wayne Rooney and Chris Smalling and they moves up on the table as Liverpool and Manchester City play the late match after Chelsea and Arsenal won as well.

Arsenal pulled ahead on the Barclays league table for the time being after winning over West Ham United on the road and after falling behind one goal, the club pulled it out with two scores from Theo Walcott and another score from Lukas Podolski and that was big after Carlton Cole scored just after the half and it was a big win to get back on track for the Gunners after pulling the scoreless draw with Chelsea and also the tough loss two weeks ago with Manchester City and the team got back into things after not winning in four league games and that was big with the way Liverpool is playing.

Luis Suarez has been by far the best player in the Premier League over the past few weeks and he is leading the league in scoring coming into Boxing Day and at the start of the holiday schedule the Reds were in first place on the table by goals with Arsenal and after the Gunners scored three they will need a nice game on Thursday. Tottenham pulled to a draw against West Brom at White Hart Lane in the first match since Tim Sherwood was named manager in full and Newcastle played tough and won by four goals against Stoke City with the club getting three red cards and Everton had a tough day as well after Tim Howard was sent off an the team lost to Sunderland on the goal from that result from Ki Sung-Yueng and that came after Southampton won 3-0 after two goals from Jay Rodriguez and one from Rockie Lambert.

Arsenal got back on track with a much needed win and a quality performance against West Ham United on Thursday for the Boxing Day schedule and Theo Walcott was excellent with two goals and the Gunners played well under pressure and finished up 3-1 and here is a Reuters.com report from the game. Walcott's double fired Arsenal back to the top of the Premier League as the Gunners got their title challenge back on track with a 3-1 victory at West Ham United on Thursday.

Carlton Cole opened the scoring for lowly West Ham after the break but Walcott struck twice before Lukas Podolski wrapped up a first win in four league games for Arsenal.

Eden Hazard's goal was enough for Chelsea to secure a 1-0 home win against Swansea City and move into second place with 37 points, two behind Arsenal, after 18 games. Champions Manchester United's surge in form continued as they hit back from two goals down at Hull City to win 3-2 and move into seventh spot.

Everton's hopes of completing 2013 unbeaten at home in the Premier League vanished as they lost 1-0 at home to bottom club Sunderland after keeper Tim Howard was sent off.

Everton are fifth with 34 points, one more than Newcastle United who thumped nine-man Stoke City 5-1.

Christmas leaders Liverpool could regain top spot on goal difference if they win at Manchester City in the later (1730) kickoff. Tottenham Hotspur are eighth following a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion in Tim Sherwood's first match in charge since being named as the club's permanent manager.

Wins for Crystal Palace at Aston Villa and Fulham at Norwich City meant the three sides that began the day in the bottom three all won, leaving West Ham to drop into the bottom three.

Cardiff City were beaten 3-0 at home by Southampton, raising fresh doubts over the future of manager Malky Mackay. (Reuters)
