Celtics, Thunder Coming Through in the Clutch

Oklahoma City and Boston do not share many things in common. From location to climate, the differences are vast. However, both cities find themselves rooting for basketball teams who are playing under the same circumstances and winning in very similar fashion.

The Oklahoma City Thunder and Boston Celtics both faced 0-2 deficits after the first two games of the Conference Finals.

They could have easily backed down and giving in to their opponents, but the teams possess so much talent that losing is not a viable option.

The teams have a single dominant player leading the team to victory. The Celtics have Rajon Rondo and the Thunder have Kevin Durant.

Let's face it. Neither team would have been in the playoffs if these players were out for a prolonged period of time. Rondo is the table setter in Boston while Durant is the key scorer for the Thunder.

Both of these stars have accomplices that back them up in big time situations.

The Celtics have Kevin Garnett, who has averaged almost 22 points in the Conference Finals and Paul Pierce who has close to 20 points per game.

The Thunder have James Harden scoring 19 a night and Russell Westbrook chips in close to 17 points against the Spurs.

These teams just finished taking a 3-2 lead in very close Game 5's. The Celtics defeated the Heat 94-90, while the Thunder surpassed the Spurs 108-103.

Both games had different scores, but they both had three-pointers that gave their team space to breath.

Harden and Pierce shot their threes from the left side of the floor, they both had a defender on their face and they both made the shots with less than a minute left in regulation.

If that is not clutch then what is?

Westbrook and Garnett kept scoring baskets, keeping their team close or widening the lead throughout the night.

Both teams have role players than can blow up for huge games, whether it is on defense or offense.

Serge Ibaka is a blocks specialist, while Ray Allen is a surgeon from three. Keyon Dooling and Marquis Daniels have provided a spark off the bench, while Thabo Sefolosha has made an impact in the starting rotation on the defensive and offensive ends.

It is too early to predict a Finals matchup between these two ball clubs, but it will be the inevitable if the teams continue balling the way they are.

The Celtics possess the experience, but the Thunder have some of the fresh talents in the league.

We will have to wait and see if the teams can wrap up their respective series.
