Chelsea Transfer News: Blues Bid for Victor Moses Rejected by Wigan

Wigan Athletic have rejected a bid for their star player Victor Moses from European champions Chelsea.

According to widespread reports in Britain, Wigan rebuffed a 10 million pound ($15.6 million) bid from Chelsea, as it was well below their valuation for the player.

Moses, who has just one year remaining on his contract, had an impressive season under Roberto Martinez, where he flourished in a free-flowing Wigan side.

Playing on the wings, Moses created several goals while scoring six in 37 appearances himself.

The 21-year-old has said he would be open to a move, if the right offer came knocking. Moses had claimed interest from Liverpool and Chelsea last month telling MTN football: "I don't know for now (whether I will move), but there's a link for me to Liverpool, Chelsea and some other clubs in England.

"If the offer is cool, why not, I will move."

Arsenal and Newcastle have also reportedly shown an interest and Chelsea are looking to steal a march on their rivals by making an official offer. Despite the rejection, it is understood further talks are going to continue for the Nigeria international as Roman Abramovich and Roberto Di Matteo look to add another youngster to their new-look squad.

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan had said last week he was hopeful of his young player staying on and signing a new contract. "Victor Moses will be staying with us and I don't think there is any doubt about that," Whelan told Goal.com.

"He is not where he should be yet. He is still improving and he is still a young lad. He respects Roberto enormously and I am sure that he will stay and that he will want to work with Roberto. So Victor will not be going anywhere.

"We have offered him a deal that which we think is a super deal for him and we are hoping that he will take it. We have brought him along from the age of 18-19 and Roberto has worked hard with him and we are hopeful that he will accept the new deal."

However, now with Chelsea stepping up their interest, it looks highly likely Moses will be leaving Wigan.
