The NHL playoffs schedule and standings now has the Boston Bruins winning the series over the Detroit Red Wings 4-1 in their first round series after an overtime win on Thursday and a win Saturday to advance against the Montreal Canadiens and on Friday the NY Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers will play Game 4 of their series and that has New York tied in things 2-2 as the rivals matchup ahead of the Chicago Blackhawks, St. Louis Blues, Dallas Stars and Anaheim Ducks on the nightly schedule.
The Bruins and the Red Wings have played a hard fought series as Original Six teams matching up, but Boston has taken total control since losing Game 1 and now they have the chance to win things with Game 5 coming on Saturday and that will be at 3 pm on NBC.
The Bruins won the game in overtime and got 35 saves from Tuukka Rask and it was Jarome Iginla's goal that sealed it and the team made a comeback with a goal in the third period to send the game into overtime. Milan Lucic also had a goal and Pavel Datsyuk added his second of the series and now the Red Wings are on the brink.
The Wild played very well to win over the Avalanche and now they have tied up the series heading into the next game, while the Kings allowed themselves a reprieve after losing the first three games. The team got goals from Marian Gaborik and Justin Williams, who each had two in the game, along with another goal from Dustin Brown and they scored three goals in the second period and five over the last two periods.
The schedule for the weekend is packed with important games and after the Detroit Red Wings visit Boston for Game 5, the Penguins and the Blue Jackets will play in Pittsburgh with the series tied 2-2. That Game 5 matchup will be very exciting to watch, as all the games so far have been 4-3 finals and multiple games have went into overtime as well and that starts up at 7 pm on the NBC Sports Network. The Minnesota Wild tied up the series with the Avalanche and Game 5 will be in Colorado on Saturday and that starts up at 9:30 pm ET on the NBCSN.
The final game on Saturday has the LA Kings taking on the Sharks in San Jose and that comes as Los Angeles is trailing 3-1 in the series and they will have the chance to close things out. The Sunday schedule also has some great games, as the Rangers or Flyers may take control depending on who wins on Friday, as Game 5 will be at 12 pm ET and that will be back in MSG for New York and that could be for the series if they win in Game 4.
The St. Louis Blues and Chicago Blackhawks have been battling in the central division all season and on Sunday they play Game 6 after matching up on Friday night and that could be a chance for elimination for the Stanley Cup champions. The Blackhawks have won the past two games and Game 5 will be in St. Louis and it could mean the Hawks have to win at home to stay alive and that game starts up at 3 pm. Both Corey Crawford and Ryan Miller have performed well in this series and they will be looking to get their teams going into the next round. Game 6 of the Ducks and Stars series comes on Sunday as well and that starts up at 8 pm ET on NBCSN.
