The Philadelphia Flyers and NY Rangers are playing Game 5 of their NHL playoffs series on Sunday and the matchup is on NBC on TV and is streaming from the Sports Network Live Extra from the network and starts up at 3 pm ET and comes as New York lost the last game in Philly and now the two teams are tied at 2-2 in the postseason series with a best of three coming up and this game will be back at Madison Square Garden.
The Flyers won the last game with a solid performance from Steve Mason, who had over 30 saves for his first win and first start of the postseason after being injured and that left Ray Emery to start the first three games of the series, which the Rangers won two of. The Rangers only got a goal from Dominic Moore and now they need players like Brad Richards and Rick Nash to step up along with Martin St. Louis, who has had a very good series and while Richards had three points in a game earlier in the series, he needs to score more and the two teams have Game 6 in Philly no matter what and that will be on Tuesday.
The Rangers come into the playoffs as the second team in their division and Philly was in third place and now NY has the chance to take advantage at home and this rivalry is playing out in the postseason for the first time in 17 years. The Flyers won that series last time in the east finals and on the schedule for Sunday is the St. Louis Blues and Blackhawks and that will be in Chicago and the series can end for the Hawks, as they are up 3-2 in the series.
Marty St. Louis is leading the Rangers in scoring with five points in this series and Derek Stepan is tops with two goals, while Rick Nash has four assists with the Rangers and they need those players to be at their best to win on Sunday. Henrik Lundqvist has once again been great and he is looking to get the Rangers the advantage with a game at home. Game 7 if necessary will be on Wednesday and that will be at MSG if it's needed and whoever wins Game 5 on Sunday obviously doesn't want it to go that far.
