Washington Redskins Rumors: Kirk Cousins Trade To Cleveland Browns or Texans Option For RG3 As Colt McCoy Backup To Robert Griffin III?

The Washington Redskins came out of the draft with Kirk Cousins in tow despite a trade offer from the Cleveland Browns and now the team could still look to trade the backup quarterback to RG3, as the Redskins have Colt McCoy signed and the Browns or Houston Texans remain options for a deal even after the Browns selected Johnny Manziel in the first round.

The Texans look like the best option right now for a Cousins deal, as they traded away Matt Schaub this season and only drafted Tom Savage in the draft at QB. The team has Ryan Fitzpatrick and could add another veteran down the line, but they also cold look at Cousins as a short term option until Savage is ready, as Cousins has shown that he can be a solid starter in the league. Cousins has received playing time behind RG3 and now the team could look to move him since Colt McCoy is in the fold and that could be beneficial down the line, as the Redskins will need more draft picks coming with Jay Gruden taking over and rebuilding things.

The Browns likely would not make this deal now with Johnny Football in the fold, but it could be an option if the team sees that Brian Hoyer is not as healed up as he needs to be heading into the summer after getting surgery last season. The team loves Manziel and wants him to succeed, but they have gone out of their way to make sure that it's known that he is the backup for now and will have to win any job. Either way, Cousins was an option for the Browns and still could be if they feel that giving Manziel a year could be beneficial to his development, as that is what the Jaguars are going to do with Blake Bortles.

The Texans have Ryan Fitzpatrick, T.J. Yates and Case Keenum right now and while the team went 2-14 last season, they have players that can handle things for now and that could get them by without a trade or another move. The team lost 14 games in a row and that is always tough to deal with and they are building back from the inside out after picking Jadeveon Clowney with the number one pick in the draft. The Texans have some decisions to make and while QB looks to be unsettled for now, the team feels good about where they are.

Texans owner Bob McNair said that he is not worried about the QB situation and that could mean that the team will stick with what they have. But according to ESPN.com, the Patriots and the Texans are still discussing a Ryan Mallett deal and that could be an option for the team as well. The Patriots drafted Jimmy Garoppolo and they appear ready to put him behind Tom Brady as the QB of the future and with Mallett's contract coming up, the time is perfect to trade him. Bill Belichick knew this was how things would end with Mallett and now they have a perfect player to slide in right behind him to take over.
