The Miami Marlins were careful while handling young pitcher Jose Fernandez, but not even pitch counts and innings limits can stop mother nature and now the star is likely done for the year with an elbow injury and he could need Tommy John surgery on his right elbow and that would keep him out until 2015 at least and is a big hit for one of the top young players in all of baseball.

According to ESPN.com, Fernandez was placed on the disabled list and he will have an MRI later on his elbow to see what the damage is and what course of action should be taken. The Marlins losing Fernandez is a huge hit and he had been pitching great after his rookie season last year, going 4-2 with a 2.44 ERA in eight starts this season and he also is tops in the majors with 70 strikeouts.

Last season Fernandez was 12-6 with a 2.19 ERA to rank second in the NL and he won rookie of the year and now he will be out of action for quite some time. Fernandez told trainers that he felt some discomfort in his elbow and now he will be on the DL and could be out until next year.
