Dwyane Wade will have his knee examined in a couple of days. Until then, he is unsure of his avaibiltiy for the 2012 Olympic games taking place in London.
It was obvious at times that Wade was injured through the playoffs. He played well overall, but at times seemed inactive for stretches of the games. He had his knee drained during the series against the Indiana Pacers, which the Heat won in six games.
Despite the injury, Wade was able to help lead the Miami Heat to the franchise's second NBA championship. He averaged just under 23 points a game in the playoffs.
Even though Wade would love to participate in the Olympics, the next move he has to take is finding out what is wrong with his knee.
He has had previous issues with the knee dating back to May 2007.
Wade came back in Beijing and helped the US Team capture gold. Averaging 16 points, despite coming off the bench, he led the team in scoring.
"I've got to make a decision on what my knee needs and what's best, because my career and finishing my career is what's important to me," Wade said.
"My loyalty and my commitment to Miami Heat basketball is the number one thing."
Doctors believe the process will be a simple cleanup, a process which, according to Wade, "takes a while to recover."
He will have a few days to find out what is troubling the knee as the US team does not report to camp until July 6th.
The Olympics begin July 27th and the Americans' first opponents will the French on July 29th.
