US Olympic Swimming Trials Heats: Michael Phelps, Vollmer and Schmitt Advance to Semis

Michael Phelps participated in the Men's 200M Butterfly heats. This time there was no Ryan Lochte to beat him, but Phelps took it easy and finished fourth.

Tonight he will look to qualify for the Finals, as the evening session will host the Men's 200M Butterfly Semi-Finals.

22-year old, Allison Schmitt, continues to impress in Omaha.

She competed in the Olympic heats earlier today and qualified for the Woman's 200M Freestyle Semi-Finals taking place tonight.

Schmitt posted a 1.58.02 in a tight race that had five swimmers finish less than a second away from taking 2nd place.

Dana Vollmer was the closest one as she finished in 2nd place .32 seconds behind Schimitt with a 1.56.36.

Racing against them tonight will be Missy Franklin, Shannon Vreeland, Morgan Scroggy, Megan Romano, Lauren Perdue and Alyssa Anderson, among eight others who will also be competing in the Semis.

In the other heat that took place today, the Women had 16 swimmers qualify for the 200M Freestyle.

Among them were Caitlin Leverenz, who finished first and Elizabeth Beisel came in right behind her.

Both of these swimmers are already U.S. Olympians having won the Women's 400M Freestyle Monday night.

Tonight on NBC, these swimmers will compete to advance to the Finals of these specific events.

The action begins at 8PM EDT.
