The Portland Timbers and Alpha United are playing live on the CONCACAF Champions League schedule and the match is live at 8 pm ET and is live streaming online from Fox Soccer Plus at Guyana National Stadium and this is a big matchup for the two sides and Portland is making a major trip for this matchup and they are into this tournament after finishing in first in their conference last season and are trying to get back to that form in the MLS.
Portland is making the long trip for this match and the team is hoping it ends in a victory or at least a positive result and this gives them the chance to get into nice position in the tournament. The team was one of the best in the MLS last season and while they are right in the mix this year, the team has not been as consistent. The Timbers are in sixth place right now and they have 31 points from 24 games and are just two points back from the Vancouver Whitecaps in playoff position and that means they are alive for the postseason still this season.
The west has been dominated by Real Salt Lake and the Seattle Sounders this season and those two teams are in first place right now, with RSL in the top spot. The Sounders have been in that spot for the bulk of the season and now they are in second place and they lead Dallas, the LA Galaxy and the Whitecaps in playoff position, while Portland is the next team in the standings.
The western conference has been more consistent than the bulk of the eastern conference, but Sporting Kansas City and DC United have been very good and they are the top teams there. Sporting is in first place by two points and they have played well since winning the title, while DC is next in the standings and they have a considerable lead over Dallas, Columbus and the New York Red Bulls in the standings.
