Through two preseason games, the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens have done everything they needed to. They have won both games. The starters have looked strong. They have avoided major injuries. One undefeated team must go down on Saturday as the Ravens and Redskins aim to keep on course before the regular season begins.
The Ravens are trying to move past the Ray Rice issues and prepare to compete this upcoming season. The running back suffered a shoulder injury during the game against the Dallas Cowboys. X-rays were negative and Rice is expected to be healthy come time for the third game of the season once his suspension is over. In the meantime, Bernard Pierce is expected to get the nod at starter. He rushed for 55 yards on seven carries against the Cowboys.
The running back position appears set, but the wide receiver group still leaves a lot to be desired. Meanwhile, the Ravens are on course to have one of the best defensive units in the league. Against the Cowboys, Courtney Upshaw scored on a 26 yard fumble. Rookie CJ Mosley led the team in tackles while the cornerbacks kept the wide receivers quiet all day.
The Redskins are looking much more in-sync this season than last year. Robert Griffin III is fully healed following his ACL tear and is looking very comfortable in the new offensive system by Jay Gruden. Against the Browns, he tossed for 112 yards while going 6 for 8. Griffin is taking advantage of the Redskins' upgraded receiving corps. DeSean Jackson caught two passes for 34 yards. Tight end Jordan Reed is looking improved and well on his way to becoming the next Jimmy Graham.
The Redskins defense looked extremely tough in the win against the Brows. There was a question of taunting after quarterback Johnny Manziel was caught on camera giving the unit the finger. Brian Orakpo and Tanard Jackson were accused of saying choice words to the quarterback, something they likely did not lose sleep over.
