MLB Standings 2014: AL and NL Wild Card Race and Division Leaders September 5

The MLB Standings in the division and wild card races in the AL and NL are getting very tight heading into September and now teams like the Los Angeles Angels, Oakland A's, St. Louis Cardinals, LA Dodgers, Detroit Tigers, Washington Nationals, Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners and Atlanta Braves are all in playoff contention as the year winds down and moves to the postseason.

The AL East has the Baltimore Orioles in a huge lead over the Yankees and the Blue Jays, while the Kansas City Royals lead the Central over the Tigers. The AL West now has the Angels in first place and they are starting to pull away more from Oakland, who is in the second wild card spot.

The NL East has the Washington Nationals leading by a wide margin, while the central now has the Cardinals after they moved past the Brewers. Out west the LA Dodgers are leading the San Francisco Giants by a couple games.

The American League wild card race is getting very close and the Oakland Athletics are now in the first spot, while the Detroit Tigers are in the second wild card. The team leads the Mariners by a half game and the Yankees and Indians by four games.

The National League Wild card is just as tight and has the Braves a half game back of the Brewers and the San Francisco Giants in the top two spots. The Brewers have lost eight in a row and now are just a half game up, while the Pirates are two games back of the second spot.
