Eddie Lacy is finding it hard to follow up his Rookie of the Year performance last season as Green Bay Packers sit 1-2 on the year following a loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 3. The running back is not putting up the numbers he did last season, but the Packers offense is not operating as efficiently as it was last season either. Lacy and others are not thrilled with their performance at this point in the year.
Lacy admits he is very frustrated with the Green Bay run game. The running back has yet to put up over 43 yards of offense in a game and admits he is not happy with the way things are turning out at the moment. Certainly not all the blame is on Lacy for the lack of a run game. The team has face three of the best run defenses in the league in their first three games. The Green Bay offensive line has also struggled to start the year. Lacy understands that things must start to change in order to get wins.
"We have to change our mind-set," Lacy said, via JSOnline.com. "We had a few opportunities as backs that we didn't take advantage of, whether we made the wrong read or tried to press too much. It's a long season and we're going to get it to where we need it to be."
With Aaron Rodgers under center and Lacy in the backfield, the Packers offense was assumed to be unstoppable. However, no one has appeared to be on the same page and it is not just Lacy failing to produce on the field. Against the Lions, Randall Cobb put up a poor effort, catching just three passes for 29 yards. Jarrett Boykin has just one catch while Jordy Nelson led the team with just 59 yards. All of the blame cannot be placed on Lacy for the team's struggles, but the running back believes the offense starts with the ground game so he takes the blame.
"We just have to figure out better ways to run the ball," Lacy said, via the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. "I don't know if I have to be more patient or speed things up but one way or another I'm responsible for the run game."
If the Packers are going to end their struggles, everyone must produce. The Green Bay defense has held up well through three games so things fall back on the offense for the losing record.
