Carmelo Anthony Fires Back at Joe Johnson, Knicks Are the Team to Beat in New York

The sides have been chosen, the trash talk has begun and the anticipation has been set for who will reign as the top team in the city of New York, the Brooklyn Nets or the New York Knicks.

On Friday Joe Johnson was asked, during a press conference in Brooklyn, which New York team is better.

"The Nets. Definitely, the Nets," he said.

Well that raised attention and debate amongst fans in the city about who will really be the better team this season.

The Knicks have always been New York's basketball team, but the Nets like their chances to take over the city after an offseason in which they've added Johnson, forwards Mirza Teletovic and Reggie Evans to a re-signed core of Deron Williams, Brook Lopez, and Gerald Wallace.

So yeah the Nets have a good team in place, but the leader of the New York Knicks, Carmelo Anthony, seems neither intimidated or moved by the Nets big talk.

"I hear they're talking trash, but we'll be ready for the challenge," Anthony told ESPNDeportes.com's Marly Rivera at an event in Washington D.C. "I haven't looked at the schedule, but when that game happens, we will be ready."

Anthony finds it to be funny that Johnson already is proclaiming that the Nets are the better team before the season tips off.

"Yeah, I mean, 'Welcome to New York, Joe'," Anthony said. "That's all I've got to say. We'll see them when we play."

The Knicks, who made the playoffs last season before losing to the Miami Heat in the first round, re-signed J.R. Smith, brought in veterans Marcus Camby and Jason Kidd, and brought back former Knicks Raymond Felton and Kurt Thomas.

The cross town rivalry between the two will surely be a good one for the players and the fans. We all know Spike Lee is going to love it being that he's been a loyal Knick fan and one of the famous faces to come out the borough of Brooklyn.

It'll be interesting to see which teams will back-up their talk and reign as "King of New York".
