Olympics 2012 Women's Tennis Results: Serena Williams Defeats Jelena Jankovic in Two straight Sets

Serena advanced to the second round of the Women's Tennis tournament in the 2012 Olympics. She won in two straight sets 6-3, 6-1 and defeated Jelena Jankovic.

Williams was cool throughout the match, showing her experience. Towards the end of the match Jankovic began over-hitting shots on serves. Her backhand and forehands were also out of control as she was unable to handle Serena's sets.

When watching the last set of this match, it was obvious that Serena Williams was the more dominant player.

The key for Williams was her serving. She had eight aces in the match compared to Jenkovic's single ace.

With the score 40-0, Williams missed an opportunity to put the match away. On the live stream, since there are no announcers or play-by-play persons, you could hear her clearly screetch in disgust as she hit a ball straight into the net.

She won the match on the following game.

For Williams it is an important first step in capturing her first Women's Singles gold medal. She owns two gold medals, but it was with the help of her sister Venus Williams at the doubles tournament in 2008 at Beijing and 2000 at Sydney.

To improve her chance of winning, Williams will have to decrease her amount of unforced errors. She had 11 compared to Jankovic's nine.

Williams will move on to the second round of Olympic action. The schedule has yet to be announced.
