Penn State Sanctions: Quarterback Rob Bolden Visiting LSU As Transfer Rumors Surround Team

While the college football world waits on the likes of running back Silas Redd and kicker Anthony Fera to decide whether they'll stay with the embattled Penn State football program, another Nittany Lion is testing the waters elsewhere.

Junior quarterback Rob Bolden, who started under center last season for former head coach Joe Paterno but ended spring practice under new head coach Bill O'Brien third on the depth chart behind Matt McGloin and Paul Jones, is reportedly visiting Louisiana State University and investigating the option of transferring to LSU to play for coach Les Miles and the Tigers, according to multiple reports.

Bolden, a 6'3" native of Orchard Lake, Michigan, played in 10 games for the Nittany Lions last season with eight starts. He completed 53 of 135 passes for 685 yards with two touchdowns and seven interceptions. The year before, he became the first true freshman to start at quarterback for Penn State in 100 years, completing 112 of 193 passes for 1360 yards with five touchdowns and seven picks.

The Tigers are inexperienced at quarterback, with junior Zach Mettenberger the most seasoned quarterback on the squad. Mettenberger played in five games with no starts in 2011, completing 8 of 11 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown behind Jarrett Lee and Jordan Jefferson. Mettenberger is joined on the LSU roster by redshirt freshmen Stephen Rivers and Jerrard Randall and true freshman Jeremy Hill.

Under the sanctions imposed on Penn State by the NCAA, which include a four-year bowl ban and loss of scholarships, the governing body is allowing any current Penn State player to transfer to another institution with immediate eligibility.
