Here we go again. The San Francisco Giants are once again desperate for offense and have wheeled off one of their top prosects in a deal that would get them Philadelphia Phillies' outfielder Hunter Pence. 

In exchange for Pence, the Giants have agreed to send Tommy Joseph a first baseman/catcher that entered 2012 as their second top prospect.

This looks all too familiar for Giants fans. Last season the Giants were defending champions and in the hunt for October before the trade deadline. 

The New York Mets were interested in shopping outfielder Carlos Beltran. Beltran would provide the offense the Giants desperately needed as their starting pitching was dominant, but they had the worst runs support in the majors.

Fast forward to 2012, the prospect the Giants gave up is dealing in the Mets' farm system, Carlos Beltran is hitting homers for the St. Louis Cardinals and Tim Lincecum is struggling as the ace of the staff.

Okay, I get it. The Giants have catching with Buster Posey. He, at least, is a proven commodity, but the Giants have been depending on Brandon Belt to come around. So far in the majors, Belt is hitting .239 with 4 homers and 33 RBI. He is only 23-years-old and still has time to develop.

With Pence coming over he can make a difference in the lineup. The question is, can he make that great of an impact to propel the Giants over the Los Angeles Dodgers?

The Dodgers have made a few move in recent days the latest being the acquisition of Pence's former teammate Shane Victorino. 

The Giants hope they get more done with Pence than they did with Beltran last season when they finished eight games back of the Arizona Diamondbacks.
