MLB Trade Rumors 2012: Cincinnati Reds Acquire Jonathan Broxton From the Kansas City Royals

(UPDATED) Red's send pitchers Donnie Joseph and J.C. Sulbaran to the Kansas City Royals.

----

The first place Cincinnati Reds have made a deal to get Kansas City Royals' closer Jonathan Broxton. Ken Rosenthal broke the news and the trade is pending a physical.

With Broxton's addition the Reds now have a very solid bullpen and a right handed stopper. The Reds already have Sean Marshall, who they traded for in the offseason. They got him from the Chicago Cubs.

They have their flame throwing closer, Aroldis Chapman, who is also a lefty. He is set up to be with the club for the next couple of years.

Broxton would be the right handed specialist, even though with Chapman's high heat a specialist is really not required.

The irony with Broxton is that he has better luck getting rightys out than lefties. Right handers have a .286 batting average while lefties are hitting .258 against him.

But, if there is any good news, being that the Reds play in a home run friendly ballpark, Broxton has only allowed one home run and it was to a lefty.

While with the Royals, Broxton has shown signs of the former closer that finished with 36 saves with the Los Angeles Dodgers back in 2009.

So far in 2012, he has 23 saves and a 2.27 ERA.

Broxton had another suitor in the Baltimore Orioles, but the Reds stepped up to get the right handed reliever.
