Olympics 2012 Tennis Results: Novak Djkovic Defeats Lleyton Hewitt, Suriving Third Round Scare

Novak Djokovic defeated Austrlian Lleyton Hewitt in a match that went to three sets. With the victory, Djokovic avoided an upset and will move on to the quarterfinals after winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-1.

Djokovic had to rally back in this one and looked like the dominant player in the final set of the match.

It was difficult to tell who was the top ranked player in the match early on.

Hewitt made Novak Djokovic work hard throughout the match. He proved to be force to contend with early on as he commited less errors than Djokovic and placed pressure on the Serbian.

Djokovic rallied back in the second set as he looked to avoid elimination. It took him a few tries before putting the game away.

With the second set 5-3 in Djokovic's favor, he served for the set and took a 30-0 lead. Winning the game would have tied the match, but Hewitt rallied back from the deficit and had Djokovic running around the court.

Hewitt rallied back to tie the set at 5. Djokovic's aces kept him in the match as he had 9 in the second set alone.

With a set point in the 12th game, score 40-30 in favor of Djokovic again, Hewitt placed a ball behind Djokovic forcing him to slide and lose his balance. Djokovic never came close to the ball.

Djokovic eventually won the set with a powerful forehand too far out of Hewitt's reach.

Next up for Djokovic, the French, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga or Spain's Feliciano Lopez in the Quarterfinals.
