Los Angeles Dodgers Rumors and News: Joe Blanton Claimed From Waivers

Joe Blanton was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday. In exchange for the right handed pitcher, the Dodgers will send the Philadelphia Phillies cash or a player to be named later.

Blanton was a member of the Phillies since 2008 and was in the pitching rotation that helped the team win the World Series that year.

The Phillies will call up B.J. Rosenberg from Triple-A and have Kyle Kendrick replace Blanton in the rotation.

For the Dodgers this is another addition to their revamped team.

They added Hanley Ramirez and followed by acquiring Shane Victorino and Brandon League on the same day last week. These moves all come as the Dodgers are battling for first place in the National League West.

If the season were to end today, the Dodgers would not make it to the playoffs. They are 4.5 out from the two Wild Card spots in the National League. They are in the NL West race as they are only 1/2 games behind the San Francisco Giants.

The Dodgers hope that Blanton can bring the team the same luck he did to the Phillies back in 2008. The Dodgers have a very talented hitter in Matt Kemp. Andre Ethier has also had a god season. Dee Gordon has been out of the lineup, but now with speed and power in the lineup with Ramirez and Victorino, the Dodgers have a nice lineup that can compete.
