Olympics 2012 Women's Basketball Results: USA Defeat Australia in Quarterfinals, Will Play in Finals

The United States Women's Basketball team has advanced into the Finals after defeating Team Australia in their quarterfinals matchup at the London 2012 Olympics. Team USA went on to win 86-73. 

Tina Charles led the Americans to victory as she had 14 points, 4 assists and 10 rebounds to lead the team in all three categories. Diana Taurasi joined her, scoring 14 points and grabbing 5 rebounds. 

It was an interesting game for Team USA as they trailed after both the first and second quarters of the game. Heading into the half, the U.S. women were down by four points, 47-43. 

The U.S. started the third quarter on an 8-1 run, fueled by two Tuarasi threes, to take the 51-48 advantage. Australia fought back and took the lead on a Suzy Batkovic bucket. Lindsay Whalen, of the U.S., scored six straight points to singlehandedly give the U.S. the 61-56 lead. 

From that point on, it was all U.S. as they took a 10-point lead in the fourth with just over six minutes left in the game. 

With the victory, the U.S. can now officially defend their title against against the French team, who defeated Australia in the first game of the semifinals on Thursday.
