New York Giants 2012 Injuries: Shaun Rogers Out of Action as Defensive Line Banged Up

The New York Giants' defensive line took a pounding on Tuesday morning, and in some cases, the beds might be to blame.

Four Giants defensive linemen were announced as being injured on Tuesday, most notably defensive tackle Shaun Rogers, who is being treated for a blood clot in his calf. Rogers, an 11-season veteran who had 22 tackles for the Saints last season before signing with the Giants in April, is the most notable player hitting the Giants' injured list on Tuesday, joining defensive tackles Martin Parker and Marvin Austin.

Parker and Austin, both second-year pros who did not play for the Giants during the regular season, are having back issues, with Parker requiring surgery to repair a herniated disc and Austin having a "back issue" examined at the Hospital for Special Surgery.

According to some reports from media at Giants training camp in Albany, the beds may be partially to blame.

Ralph Vacchiano, who covers the Giants for the New York Daily News, wrote Tuesday on his Twitter account (@RVacchianoNYDN) that defensive tackle Linval Joseph was one of several players blaming the dorm beds at the University at Albany.

"Why so many guys with back issues in camp?" Vacchiano tweeted. "Linval Joseph was just the latest player to blame the hard beds in the UAlbany dorms."

Vacchiano also passed along input from tight end Martellus Bennett, who said, "We're big humans. Every bed is small. You can't put a damn dinosaur in a twin sized bed."

It was later reported that the beds are provided by the Giants, not the school.

Of course, the beds don't have anything to do with the clot in Rogers' leg, but with the injuries to Parker, Austin, Rogers, Chris Canty and defensive end Justin Trattou, the Giants will likely need to find a way to take care of the defensive linemen they have left.
