Former Los Angeles Lakers center, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, recently voiced his opinion on the team's decision to trade away Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard. Jabbar called it "nothing short of a coup."
Jabbar based his comments on behavior that transcends numbers on the court.
He believes Howard's work ethics and way of playing the game will make him a perfect fit for the Lakers. He thinks Howard will not have to change many thing in his game, which will make him an easy addition to the Lakers' already potent lineup.
Who is Jabbar to comment on Bynum's skills you might ask?
Jabbar worked out with Bynum when he was younger and still learning about the game. "When I first started working with him, he was eager to learn. He appreciated me shortening the learning curve."
Jabbar went on to state that once Bynum found out he could learn on his own, he strayed away from remembering the fundamentals.
Bynum showed inconsistent character throughout the 2011-2012 season. He made arrogant comments in the playoffs. "Closeout games are actually kind of easy. Teams tend to fold if you come out and play hard in the beginning." He said this before Game 5 against the Denver Nuggets and the Lakers lost that game.
He took a three-pointer when he did not have any business in taking the shot and Coach Mike Brown sat him for the remainder of the game.
Bynum lacks passion and common sense during some points in the season.
Howard's biggest sin was torturing the fans and the Orlando Magic organization with this trade, but other than that, he has been a class act his entire career.
Bynum said he was excited about being a Philadelphia 76er, but let us see how long that passion lasts.
The Lakers traded a player that would have slowed them down in the long run as Kobe Bryant enters the supposed first season of two he has left in his NBA career.
