Baltimore Orioles Rumors 2012: Randy Wolf Will Soon Get Deal?

The Baltimore Orioles are not letting up on their hopes to remove the New York Yankees from the top of the American League East throne. They are rumored to go after lefty veteran Randy Wolf after his release from the Milwaukee Brewers.

Wolf was released on his birthday, possibly the worse news a player could receive, on August 22nd by the Brewers. In 2012, Wolf posted a 5.69 ERA and a 3-10 record, coming as no surprise as to why he was released.

The Orioles could use a veteran pitcher like Wolf in their rotation and he can help against tough lineups like the New York Yankees, who left handed heavy with Robinson Cano, Curtis Granderson and Raul Ibanez. Though switch hitters, Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher have more power from the left side of the plate, so flipping them over would sure help the Orioles.

Currently, the Orioles possess a below average pitching numbers. Wolf can be a left handed stopper in the team's pitching rotation. Lefties hit .274 in his 25 appearances. He only gave up five home runs to lefties in those 25 games.

The Orioles will have to go into games ready to score runs however, as you can tell by his ERA, Wolf gave up a lot of runs.

Wolf received three or more runs in 20 of his starts, 9 of which were more than six runs in an outing.

The Orioles are a team with power as they have hit 157 home runs in the season, tied for fourth place in the Majors.

Baltimore is also currently 3.5 games behind the Yankees in the AL East.

There is still over a month of baseball left to play in the regular season. Any small addition could make the difference.
