Gunning for back to back Grand Slam titles yet again in his illustrious career, top-seeded Roger Federer of Switzerland will take on veteran contender Bjorn Phau on Thursday to secure his berth in the second-round of the 2012 US Open.

17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer has reached US Open second round, where he has thrashed opening round opponent Donald Young of United States in three sets with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 score line. Swiss star has been playing great tennis right now and looking forward to clinch the sixth US Open championship here in New York next month.

While many of his peers have not been able to maintain any sort of decent consistency on tour, Federer is still a force to be reckoned with on tour and undoubtedly, he is the most favorite contender to win the title.

31-year-old Federer, who has won Cincinnati Masters title last week, after beating his rival Novak Djokovic in two sets with a 6-0, 7-6 score line.

Bjorn Phau has defeated Maxime Authom in the US Open first round in four sets with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 score line and will have to face tricky opponent in the second round.

Both the players are meeting for the third time in their career, where top seed Federer leads with a 2-0 win loss head-to-head record against German star. The pair last meet at the 2010 Estoril Open fourth round and Swiss star clinches victory in two sets with a 6-3, 6-4 score line.
