MLB News: Angels Trade Josh Hamilton To Texas Rangers After Relapse, Los Angeles To Pay Most Of Contract

The Los Angeles Angels are working to trade Josh Hamilton to the Texas Rangers following his reported relapse, as Fox Sports reports that the team is sending the outfielder to his former team in a deal with no other players involved.

Hamilton has not played for the Angels this season while dealing with an injury and following his drug relapse, which sparked some tough talk from the Angels organization. Hamilton's future remained up in the air and on Friday it was reported that the team would "part ways with Hamilton "within days." Fox Sports and Jeff Passan at Yahoo Sports reported soon after that about the possible trade to the Rangers, where Hamilton has the best stretch of his career.

Yahoo Sports reports that Hamilton will be heading back to the Rangers, with Texas paying about $15 million on his contract. The Angels will reportedly pick up over $65 million of Hamilton's money on the deal and they are paying to have him go away rather than try and hold back the money on Hamilton. Texas feels that it's a good risk to take and the foundation Hamilton had in Texas should be better for him than when he had in Los Angeles.

The 33-year-old has been a disappointment in Los Angeles and he will return to Arlington, where he made five All-Star teams and won the MVP. Hamilton averaged nearly 30 home runs in his time with the Rangers and a change of scenery could be the best thing for him.
