The Top 5 teams earned victories on Saturday's Week 3 of college football. All except for the USC Trojans were able to get a win in dynamic fashion. Alabama (1), LSU (3) Oregon (4), and Florida State (5) blew out their competitions on Saturday. Let's start with the performance Florida Sate's running game put on display.
Wake Forest 0- 52 Florida St (5)
It was a an exhibition of strength and determination as Florida St. faced Wake Forrest. Running back Chris Thompson was back out on the field almost a year removed from two broken disks on his back, which he suffered against these same Demon Deacons. Thompson for 154 yards and two touchdowns on back-to-back touches in less than four minutes in the second quarter.
Thompson finished the game with 197 yards rushing yards and 2 TD's on 9 carries.E.J. Manuel, quarterback, threw for 176 yards and two touchdowns in the routing against Wake Forest.
Alabama (1) 52-0 Arkansas
Alabama proved to everybody why they were the number ranked team. Well, their opponent Arkansas was unranked, but this is what you're supposed to do to unranked teams. Alabama did it on the ground, scoring touchdowns as four different players finished with a rushing touchdown. Eddie Lacy had a 12 carries with only 55 yards, but he managed to get into the end zone three times. A.J. McCarron finished with just 16 pass attempts, completing 11 of them for 176 yards and a touchdown.
USC (2) 14-21 Stanford
It was a tough one for the Trojans on Saturday night. Their offense struggled as quarterback Matt Barkley finished the game with no touchdowns and two interceptions with 254 passing yards. Silas Redd got them into the end zone twice, but he only rushed for 17 yards on 12 carries. Stanford put the game away in the fourth as Josh Nunes connected with Zach Ertz for 37 yards and the score. Nunes finished his night with 217 yards passing, two touchdowns and two interceptions.
Idaho 14-63 LSU
The Tigers did it with a balanced offense and a few defensive plays. They picked off Idaho's Dominique Blackman four times and Ronald Martin ran back one of those interceptiosn for 45 yards. Lavar Edwards then picked Blackman off in the third quarter for a 23-yard pick six.
Zach Mettenberger finished 17/22 with 222 yards passing, 2 TD's and an interception. Kenny Hillard had 116 yards rushing and 2 TD's for the Tigers.
Tennessee Tech 14-63 Oregon St (4)
The Oregon Ducks actually trailed in this one and in a blink of an eye there were up 21-7 at then end of the first quarter. Quarterback Marcus Mariota of the Ducks, had 308 passing yards, with four touchdowns and an interception. He was on target completing 21/28 of his passes. Three ball carries finished this game with a touchdown as the Ducks dominated on Saturday. Byron Marshall led the way with 125 rushing yards and a touchdown on 13 carries.
