The Miami Dolphins are ready to make a playoff push in 2015 and the team now has DeVante Parker and Jay Ajayi as rookies coming into OTA workouts and they are hoping to contribute along with Lamar Miller, Jarvis Landry and Greg Jennings on offense, as Ryan Tannehill is coming in after his best season and this comes as the defense should be much better with Ndamukong Suh.
The Dolphins made a number of changes on offense this offseason and the team expects major improvements on that side of the ball. Adding Parker and Ajayi should be very helpful for Tannehill, while Jennings should be a solid third or fourth wideout option behind Landry and Kenny Stills. The team traded away Mike Wallace and released both Brian Hartline and Brandon Gibson, which means the Dolphins need players to step up to help with the transition.
Tannehill is coming off of his best pro season and he impressed the Dolphins by setting career highs in passing yards, touchdowns and completion percentage this past year. According to the Miami Herald, the team picked up the fifth year option on Tannehill, but Mike Tannenbaum is hoping to sign him to a long term contract. The report says that the team and Tannehill have talked and that a deal around seven years and $100 million has been discussed.
--UPDATE: The Dolphins have signed Ryan Tannehill to a contract extension.
Last season the Dolphins did rush the ball with consistency and now they add Ajayi to help Lamar Miller in the offense. Ajayi comes in as a versatile back, after putting up over 2000 yards last season and that could be a big boost for Tannehill. The team has high expectations for Parker, as they had Jarvis Landry have a strong rookie season and they feel he can make an impact right away.
Parker was taken at number 14 overall and he comes in with explosive skills and he has already made an impression in rookie minicamp. Philbin said that Parker has picked things up quickly and that if he can adjust to the NFL game this offseason, he could be an impact player this season for the Dolphins. Parker put up solid numbers at Louisville.
According to the Palm Beach Post, Suh may skip voluntary workouts with the Dolphins even after signing his major contract. The team said that Suh "has every right" to skip offseason workouts and that the defensive lineman has already spent time with the Dolphins during the offseason program in April. The team expects Suh to be there when mandatory minicamp starts in June and coach Joe Philbin said that he understood that Suh wants to work with his own trainer, which he did while he was with the Lions as well.
The Dolphins signed Suh to a big contract and now he comes in looking to improve the defense from the front lines. Suh is one of the best defensive players in the league and he helped the Lions have the best rush defense last year. According to Pro Football Talk, the Dolphins are hoping that adding Jordan Phillips in the draft and Suh in the offseason can help Cameron Wake get even better when it comes to rushing the passer. Suh is expected to have a big season and the team said they are not concerned with him being away for offseason workouts.
