Manchester United has a fresh and fit squad as they kick off their 2011-12 Champions League campaign with a home field game against an old enemy in Galatasaray for Group H action at 2:45 p.m. ET.
The two have not met in Europe since 1993, when Ferguson's troops travelled to Istanbul in the second leg of a second round tie, a 0-0 draw which resulted in the Red Devils being knocked out of the Champions League, after being held by the resilient Turks 3-3 at Old Trafford.
After last season's disappointing exit in the group stage, Sir Alex Ferguson and Manchester United have a point to prove in the Champions League this go round.
Ferguson is bidding to win his third Champions League title, a feat that would see him match Bob Paisley's haul with Liverpool.
United are set to start striker Robin van Persie after the Dutchman was rested for the weekend's 4-0 win over Wigan.
Defender Patrice Evra is also expected to return to the starting line-up after he also missed Saturday's action with a minor knock. United are still without Wayne Rooney, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, who remain on the sidelines.
Galatasaray are likely to field a full-strength team, although defenders Tom Ujfalusi and Sabri Sarioglu will be unavailable through injury. Brazil midfielder Felipe Melo - on loan from Juventus - is likely to play despite a minor knock.
Expected Starting Line Ups:
Manchester United: Anders Lindegaard, Rafael, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Alexander Büttner, Paul Scholes, Michael Carrick, Antonio Valencia, Shinji Kagawa, Nani, Robin Van Persie
Galastasaray: Fernando Muslera, Emmanuel Eboue, Cris, Semih Kaya, Hakan Balta, Felipe Melo, Selcuk Inan, Burak Yilmaz, Aydin Yilmaz, Johan Elmander, Nordin Amrabat
