Braves vs. Marlins: Kris Medlen & Chipper In the Record Books, Jones Gets Farewell Souvenir

All the Atlanta Braves needed on Wednesday was Kris Medlen on the mound and the team automatically knew that with just a few runs they could win the game. They left Miami with a 3-0 victory as Chipper Jones bid farewell to an NL East rival.

With the win, the Braves won their 21st consecutive game with Medlen as their starter.

Last team to accomplish this feat? The New York Yankees from 1950-1953 with Whitey Ford. That is some great company. Medlen continues to almost effortlessly mow down the competition.

For Jones, he is now tied with legend Lou Gehrig for hits in the All-Time list.

"That's the Iron Horse, man," Jones said. "Just really honored to have as many hits in my career as one of the greatest in the game. Now we've got to work on passing him."

Chipper went 1-4 with a single recorded his 2,721 hit in his final game in Miami.

As a parting gift, the Marlins respectful presented Chipper with fly-fishing rod and a slew of accessories to commemorate the future hall of famer and their longtime rival.

More important than chasing personal records, Chipper is happy that they were able to get those run on the boards for Medlen who shoutout the Marlins over 8 innings while only allowing four hits and striking out six.

The victory got the Braves a game closer to the Washington Nationals who lost in Los Angeles against the Dodgers.

The Braves look like they are too far back to take the NL East, but with the Nationals struggling, the Braves are on fire and are at least safely securing the first spot in the NL Wild Card.
