The New York Yankees head to Target Field where they will face the Minnesota Twins as the 2012 season winds down. The Yankees will attempt to further themselves from the Baltimore Orioles as they hold a 1.5 game lead in the AL East. 

The Yankees will have Phil Hughes on the mound against the Twins. Minnesota will have Esmerling Vasquez pitching against the home run hitting line of the Yankees. 

Hughes has been inconsistent in September. He pitched two gems in his two middle starts, pitching a shutout in seven innings against the Boston Red Sox and prior to that, he threw six innings of two-run ball against the Orioles.

In his most recent start he gave up four to the Toronto Blue Jays in just five innings pitched. However, the Yankees won that game. His only loss of the month came to the Orioles where he gave up five runs in five innings pitched. 

Hughes is prone to the home run ball, but Target Field is a fairly big place. 

The Yankees will go against a weaker and inexperienced pitcher in Vasquez. He has given up no less than three runs in his four starts in the majors. 

In 20 innings pitched, Vasquez has surrendered 15 runs, but only one home run. 

The Yankees usually struggle against pitchers they have never faced before, but this game is important and the odds favor the Yankees since the Twins are 1-3 with Vasquez on the mound. 

The action begins at 8:10 p.m. ET/7:10 p.m. CT. With a win they could get their magic number down to seven.
