The Atlanta Braves host the Miami Marlins in Turner Field. With a win, the Braves can lock up the first spot of the NL Wild Card, which will guarantee them a one-game playoff in the postseason.
None other than their late season ace, Kris Medlen, will be given the ball tonight as the Braves look to completely bounce back from a disappointing 2011 September that saw them missing the playoffs in the last game of the season.
Medlen has been truly amazing in 2012 as a starter. He has an 8-0 record and has a 0.76 in his last games. He has not given up no more than two runs in a game and that came against the New York Mets in the middle of the month.
For Medlen that is six earned runs over 70.2 innings pitched, which is pretty amazing.
The Marlins will have Nathan Eovaldi on the mound. He is 4-12 in the season and in the past 10 games pitched, he has faced the Braves twice. He went for a no-decision against them last week throwing eight shutout innings. In his other start, Eovaldi gave up six runs in two innings pitched for the loss.
The Marlins will soon put a close to a very disappointing 2012 campaign where many had them at the top of the NL East division.
The Braves proved that expensive purchases are overrated. Despite the disappointing end to their 2011 season, the Braves remained with their young players and made minor moves over the break and before the deadline.
