NBA News And Rumors 2012: Former NBA All-Star Gilbert Arenas Will Consider Playing In China If He Can't Find A Team Before The 2012-13 NBA Season

As reported yesterday, point guard Gilbert Arenas stated he was interested in signing with either the Los Angeles Lakers or Los Angeles Clippers before the start of the 2012-13 NBA season. Though getting picked up by either one of the teams was ideal for Arenas, it was highly unlikely.

The L.A. native was playing pickup ball in the Lakers' practice facility as recently as Thursday, but has yet to secure a training camp invite.

Now sources close to Arenas acknowledged that the veteran point guard is considering continuing his basketball overseas in China.

Given that former NBA All-Stars who decide to play in in China are heavily compensated, playing there is at the top of Arenas' list. It may benefit Arenas, as being that the short Chinese season allows for a return to the NBA in March or April if he impresses.

Arenas has spent most of the offseason working out under the care of trusted Joe Abunassar while occasionally using the open gym at the Lakers' or Clippers' practice facilities, by all accounts, looking good in pickup games.

The reality is the 30-year-old was unlikely to receive more than the veteran's minimum after appearing in just 17 games with the Memphis Grizzles last season.

With the beginning of the season being a month away, he has some time to decide, though the Chinese teams will have their rosters filled before the season opener in November.
