New York Giants News: Eli Manning Contract Status For Season, Extension Likely Before Week 1?

Eli Manning is comfortable playing out the final year of his contract without a new deal in place. The two time Super Bowl winning quarterback is seemingly betting on himself at the age of 34 but why? His play has said to have declined, he is getting up there in age, and the Giants have finished the season with losing records for the past two seasons. This is going to sound weird but Eli actually has more interceptions on the years the Giants do exceedingly well. In 2007 the first Super Bowl title for Eli, Manning threw 20 interceptions and only 23 touchdowns.

This of course repeated itself in 2011 as the Giants chased a second title; Manning threw for 16 interceptions and 29 touchdowns. It is clear that when every aspect of the Giants is running on all cylinders that team is tough to beat but Manning's individual play seemed like it was slipping. In 2013 Manning recorded 27 interceptions and 18 touchdowns however even when Eli got it together in 2014 and kept his interceptions in check the Giants still went 6-10. The organization clearly has not looked to life without Manning, and is not ready to do so.

The Giants in 2015 have way too many holes to fill to just focus on one player, even if that one player won them 2 Super Bowls. Eli was able to win those Super Bowls because the supporting cast of the Giants got him to that point. Now it seems as if the team that won those Super Bowls has been replaced, and to a degree it has. Manning will most likely sign a team friendly deal as his career comes to a close, so the Giants can give him the best team possible in his waning years.
