NFL Training Camp News: Kam Chancellor May Hold Out Without New Contract For Seattle Seahawks? Legion of Boom Could See Absence This Summer

The contract problems keep coming for the Seattle Seahawks, star safety, team captain, Kam Chancellor may hold out for a bigger contract.

If this were the case Chancellor (age 27) would miss training camp until he gets a new contract which Seattle has already stated it is not looking to revisit. Chancellor signed a four year extension in 2013 worth up to $28 million dollars. Chancellor is the 7th highest paid safety in the league but also one of the league's best. Chancellor and Earl Thomas make up the best free safety/strong safety combination in the league by far and with Thomas already out going into the beginning of the season, the Seahawks might be compelled to pay Chancellor what he wants.

This is bad news because it is unlikely that the Seahawks can pay Chancellor if they resign middle linebacker Bobby Wagner and starting quarterback Russell Wilson. Wilson is clearly the priority however he has made it known that if a deal were not to be done by the end of this week he would cease all contract talks so the Seahawks can focus on the season ahead.

Wagner must be resigned if the Seahawks want to keep the middle of the defensive line from crumbling, Wagner can cover, blitz, and run stop better than most other linebackers out there. Another player who is looking for a contract extension is defensive lineman Michael Bennett who has been asking for a new contract all off season long. Seattle's success and Super Bowl runs have been the largest factor in these players understanding their worth now the Seahawks have to decide whether or not to allow them to cash in.
