New York Mets vs. Boston Red Sox Live Stream: Watch Online MLB Baseball Interleague Games Streaming 4:05 PM ET

While the Boston Red Sox's season might be over in terms of extending past the regular season, the New York Mets have their eyes on the playoffs as they continue to dominate the National League East standings. The Mets have been one of the best teams all season and that is not changing as they work a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox as Jacob deGrom takes the mound.

There is no doubting the Mets right now as they continue to have one of the best offensive months in franchise history. Heading into their series against the Red Sox, they have won seven straight games including eight out of their last nine as they sit 6.5 games in the lead for the East. Yoenis Cespedes continues to tear through starting pitchers while Curtis Granderson is leading in home runs. Meanwhile the pitching rotation is giving up just over three runs a game.

deGrom looks to keep the success going against Boston as he takes the mound for a Saturday afternoon game. The second-year star is in need of a major bounce back game after he surrendered seven runs in just 2.2 innings against the Philadelphia Phillies. The pitcher struggled heavily at Citizens Bank Park and the bad performance moved his ERA from 1.98 to 2.29. It was a big change from his previous stars where he has given up just seven runs in 48.2 innings combined. With Boston struggling at the plate, he should be able to get going once again.

The Red Sox will not be playing in October this year as they aim to try and end an inconsistent season on a high note. The team is showing some promise for the future especially in the starting pitcher rotation. While they are not as good as New York, they have some potential to be great later on. In the past 23 games, the team has held opponents to just two runs of fewers 15 times.

Joe Kelly is getting the nod against the Mets and talk is high on what he can bring to the team. He is 7-6 on the season after giving up just two runs in 7.1 innings to the White Sox. He has a 5.18 ERA on the season, but continues to improve. It will be tough to keep that up against the high-powered Mets offense of the moment.
