The Chicago Bears have released one of the staples of their secondary.

Tim Jennings has had two Pro Bowl seasons with the Bears but at 31 he failed to stick to the roster. The new coaching staff so him as a veteran player for an old system. Regardless they allowed him to compete for a roster spot out of respect but it was clear they were going to go in another direction. Jennings stated

"Once the whole regime came in and everybody was here, I kind of knew. But they also gave me a heads up and told me I would be out there competing for a job. I had my best years here. I made two Pro Bowls. I played some good football. I had some ups and downs with injuries but for me, this is where I played my best football. They told me they were going to go younger, but I'm looking forward to finding my next team."

Jennings is a great run stopping cornerback however his age and diminishing coverage skills could become an issue. Teams that need a cornerback who plays like a safety will be interested in the veteran.

As the Bears released Jennings they also put safety Ryan Mundy on injured reserve.
