The Green Bay Packers, suffered a scare when their star wide receiver Randall Cobb suffered a shoulder injury after a hard hit onto the turf.
The injury was diagnosed as an AC joint sprain similar to what Dallas Cowboys running back Gus Johnson suffered earlier in preseason. The severity of the injury is not really a concern however it could potentially keep Cobb out for week 1 of the regular season. The injury occurred when Cobb was tackled out of bounds during the first quarter of their preseason tilt with the Eagles.
The Packers are already thin at wide receiver thanks to the seasoning ending injury to Jordy Nelson who has been Aaron Rodgers primary target for the last few seasons. After the injury to Cobb the Packers pulled wide receiver DeVante Parker as a precaution. Parker is expected to be the number 2 wide receiver, with Cobb playing the number 1 role however this leaves a lot of room for a new receiver to make an impact.
The Packers are looking at Ty Montgomery and Jeff Janis as possible replacements for Nelson or 3rd string wide receivers in the long run. Both players are talented and have yet to really get a leg up on the other so it will be interesting how many targets each of them receive in the final preseason game.
