The Dallas Cowboys have made a trade for a quarterback in the wake of Tony Romo's injury. The Cowboys have traded their 5th round pick with the Buffalo Bills for Matt Cassel and a Bills 7th round pick.
Cassel was the Bill's starter until Tyrod Taylor replaced him in the latter half of the preseason. Cassel in 2 preseason games with the Bills completed 13 of 15 passes for 83 yards. Taylor emerged as the starter towards the end of the preseason which forced the Bills to release Cassel.
The Bills soon after resigned him to be the number 2 backup to Taylor. Cassel's touchdown (96) to interception (70) rate is one of the best out of the multitude of backup quarterbacks in the NFL. The Cowboys will be without their franchise quarterback Tony Romo for around 8 games so Romo will likely make his return by the time the Cowboys face the Dolphins in week 11.
The Cowboys theoretically can still make a solid push for the playoffs by the time Romo and Dez Bryant return from injury. Romo will miss all 3 games in October including a battle with the New England Patriots. Cassel will likely play second fiddle to Brandon Weeden to begin this transitional phase however he has yet to be successful as a Cowboys starting quarterback.
